Workshops & Classes

Two books on a wooden surface, one titled 'Craft in the Real World' in blue and the other partially visible in red, titled 'The Anti-Racist Writing Workshop.' A beige vase with lavender stems and yellow flowers is next to the books. A pencil rests on the books.

Even though you write alone, you don’t have to feel alone with your work. A writing community provides support and camaraderie.

For years, I hosted creative writing workshops in my backyard and then, during COVID, online. My workshops have focused on craft in multiple genres, generative writing, the revision process, how to submit your work, and screenwriting. All of these workshops have bolstered creativity and accountability, honed craft, and strengthened voice among participants. Writers have benefitted from their peers’ feedback, while forging friendships and growing their community.

I also regularly teach Intro. to Screenwriting at UCLA Extension, a course I absolutely love. See below for details about this course and the next time it runs.

To be part of a fun, nurturing, talented community of writers, check out my current offerings and sign up for my mailing list to receive updates on future workshops.

Summer Pop-Up 2025

Weekdays, July 14–July 25
10 meetings

Time: 7:30am–8:15am PT

Cost: FREE! With a suggested donation of $5 per morning or $40 for all 10

Conceived in March 2020 during the first weeks of lockdown and inspired by Natalie Goldberg’s Writing Down the Bones, R+WO is a morning, free-write practice that encourages writers to put their thoughts on the page, unencumbered and unedited. We begin each session with a short reading from which we choose a prompt. Writers then write independently for 20 minutes. Afterward, any writer is welcome to share what they wrote if they like. All you need to participate is something to write on. To join, reach out through the Contact Me button below.

The world is not permanent, is ever-changing and full of human suffering. So if you express something egoless, it is also full of energy because it is expressing the truth of the way things are. You are not carrying the burden of ego in your expression, but are riding for moments the waves of human consciousness and using your personal details to express the ride. —Natalie Goldberg

A stack of screenwriting books on a wooden surface next to two potted succulents. The titles include "Screenplay" by Syd Field, "The TV Writer's Workbook" by Ellen Sandler, "Inside the Room" edited by Linda Venis, "Save the Cat!" and "Story" by Robert McKee. Three pencils are also placed on the surface.

Intro to Screenwriting at UCLA Extension

Spring Quarter 2025

Tuesdays, April 29–June 3, 2025
6 meetings

Time: 6:00pm–9:00pm PT
Where: Zoom
Cost: $485, through UCLA Extension

This is a course I facilitate and absolutely love. The six-week course is perfect for anyone getting started on their path to becoming a screenwriter. Each class offers a broad-strokes introduction to a different writing format, which includes Feature Film, Television Specs, and Television Pilots, as well as a rotating list of specialized forms such as Video Game Writing, Writing for Animation, Sketch Comedy Writing, and/or Script Doctoring. Lectures by guest speakers offer insight and instruction on each topic, followed by guided workshop sessions where students put those theories into action on their own material. The goal of the course is to give new writers a taste of different screenwriting types to help deepen their overall knowledge while sparking their creative energy. At the end of the quarter, students should feel more confident about their skills and be prepared for further study of writing.
