Quick Tip: Track Your “I’s”


Don’t fall into the “I” trap.


When revising memoir, personal essay, or first-person fiction, comb through your work and circle every “I” that starts a sentence. You’ll notice quickly if you’ve overused this sentence structure. Make the necessary adjustments by crafting sentences that don’t begin with “I.”
